Summer 2025 Global Programs and Funding

Summer 2025 Programs for FHC Students

This summer, Frederick Honors Global Programs is offering three programs designed specifically for you!

Frederick in Wyoming: Introduction to Field Methods

Frederick in Wyoming: Introduction to Field Methods is an immersive three and a half week experience that is designed to provide foundational field research experience.  Spend two weeks in Pittsburgh and a week and a half in Laramie, Wyoming with Dr. Josh Cannon, director of research for the Frederick Honors College, learning how to plan fieldwork projects, write proposals, collect and analyze data, and more.  You’ll get experience on the Spring Creek Preserve in Wyoming and attend Cheyenne Frontier Days, including a rodeo!

Applications are due in January and funding is available!

Frederick in Wyoming: Applied Field Methods

Frederick in Wyoming: Applied Field Methods is a two-week program, led by Dr. Jim Johnson from the University of Wyoming.  Building on the experience of the Introduction to Field Methods course, you’ll spend two weeks on the Spring Creek Preserve assisting in an on-going research dig.  The Spring Creek Preserve contains numerous dinosaur and invertebrate fossils, recently discovered evidence of an old West town, and other artifacts from human history.

Choose to enroll in one or both of the Wyoming Field programs.  Additional scholarship funds are available if you choose to participate in both!

Plus3 Netherlands

Plus3 Netherlands is for first-year students looking to get an early international experience. Led by faculty from the Swanson School of Engineering, this 2-week program in May offers an interdisciplinary look into globalization through the lens of flood control, floriculture, food, fabrication, and flight.

Applications are due in early December and space is limited to 12 FHC students!

John Martison Elevate Award: $1,000 scholarship for any global experience

Additionally, you may be eligible for scholarship funding through the Pitt Global Experiences Office and your co-enrollment school.

Finally, review the Nationality Room Scholarship program – these provide significant funding for approved global programs, research, and other experiential learning opportunities across the globe.

Why Participate in a Global Program?

As a Frederick Honors College Student, the credits you earn on an approved global experience fulfill the experiential requirement of both the distinction and degree.

Already fulfilled your experiential requirements?  No problem! If you’ve completed your experiential credits OR if your global program has more experiential credits than you need, the remaining credits carry over to fulfill the academic requirements of your program.

Plus, you may be able to use the credits on your program to fulfill major, minor, and general education requirements.
