Honors abroad: Top programs

These specialized programs cater to Honors students' curiosity. They drop you right in the epicenter of key topics so you can explore in-depth, but from a broad variety of angles.

Frederick in Wyoming: Introduction to Field Methods

Learn the methods, techniques, and issues in conducting field-based research. Through readings, discussion, and hands-on exercises, students learn how to plan fieldwork projects and write proposals based on the scientific method, collect data in the field, analyze, manage, and present collected data, use various research equipment, and work with a research team. 

Frederick in Wyoming: Applied Field Methods in Anthropology Archaeology

Led by Dr. Jim Johnson from the University of Wyoming, this course builds on the experience of the Introduction to Field Methods course. You’ll spend two weeks on the Spring Creek Preserve assisting in an on-going research dig.  Choose to enroll in one or both of the Frederick in Wyoming programs.  Additional scholarship funds are available if you choose to participate in both!

Pittsburgh-London Film Program

The Pitt-London Film Program provides you with a uniquely rich academic and cultural experience, combining the highest level of academic expertise with the world class production skills of the Derek Jarman Lab. All the courses on the program take London as their focus and all seek to mix production with history and analysis.

Through unique coursework and speakers, the Pittsburgh-Los Angeles Film Program aims to give a unique exposure to various aspects of the entertainment industry, building on Pitt Film and Media program’s desire to offer “a liberal arts education with professional outcomes.”

Plus3 Frederick Honors

Plus3 is your first chance to study abroad at Pitt. This two-week, three-credit interdisciplinary experience is a partnership between the David C. Frederick Honors College and the Swanson School of Engineering. Limited to 12 FHC students, travel to the Netherlands and experience globalization through industry-specific company tours, Q&A sessions with executives, and academic lectures that provide cultural and political perspective

Comparative Healthcare in Graz

Immerse yourself in an international environment where healthcare and policy differ significantly from the United States. This four-week, 6-credit study abroad experience will give you the opportunity to explore healthcare through a comparative lens, using Austria and Slovenia as specific examples to contrast with the United States. This program is designed for any student who is interested in healthcare or on the pre-med track.
