Together, the Frederick Honors College and PittGEO offer hundreds of opportunities for global experiences, but we recognize that you may want to chart your own path, and we’re here to help. There are two types of independent opportunities that you can pursue: direct enroll and independent experiences. Details for each are below.
If you are interested in pursuing an independent opportunity, you must work with Brice Lynn, director of global learning, throughout the process.
Direct Enroll: If you find a structured global program or opportunity that is not listed on the Pitt Global Experiences website, you can complete a direct enroll petition. Direct enroll petitions are reviewed for health, safety, security, and academic integrity and quality. You can read more about the direct enroll process here.
Independent Experiences: If you are planning on completing research, community engaged learning, or an internship outside of Western PA, the Global Learning team can support you in applying for approval and registration. Registering your independent experience provides you with support from the University’s duty of care and insurance providers.
