The Marshall Scholarship is one of the most prestigious competitive fellowships and offers up to 50 fully funded scholarships annually to U.S. citizens for graduate study at a British university. The award is competed for in 8 regions and is open to all fields of study. The program is looking for academically strong candidates with demonstrated leadership who will aim to strengthen the special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States. Candidates must be able to express how studying in Great Britain and gaining a deeper understanding of its culture and history will play an important role in their future plans. Candidates must be nominated by their current or most recent undergraduate institution as there is an institutional limit. The Rhodes Scholarship is arguably the most prestigious award available. It offers fully funded study of two or more years at Oxford university for talented individuals from around the globe. For Rhodes US, 32 awards are given each year in 16 designated districts. Per the Rhodes guidelines, successful scholars will demonstrate academic excellence; energy to use your talents to the full; truth, courage, devotion to duty; and moral force of character. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership not only within their field of study but also their outside the classroom endeavors. University nomination is required. The Churchill and Kanders Churchill Scholarship fund up to 18 scholarships per year, comprised of 16 Churchill Scholarships in science, mathematics, and engineering, and two Kanders Churchill Scholarships in science policy. The Scholarships are for one year of Master’s study (courses run between 9 and 12 months). The award covers tuition, roundtrip airfare to the UK, visa fees and health surcharge, and a stipend that is set 5% higher than the UK Research Council standard. Recipients are eligible to apply for a $4,000 special research grant. The total value is around $75,000. Scholars are selected on the basis of academic and research achievement and aims seek to provide accomplished scientists, mathematicians, and engineers with the tools to maximize their future impact.
