Deborah joined the Frederick Honors College advising team in August 2023. She is delighted to return to Pitt, where she previously attended graduate school and later served on the staff of the University of Pittsburgh Press. Deborah has been an educator in the Pittsburgh area for over 12 years, serving as an English teacher, student mentor, college and career counselor, and director of advising. Her pedagogical approach centers student relationships, agency, inclusion, community, and joy. In addition to her work in educational spaces, Deborah values her experiences as a writer, editor, curriculum developer, and dedicated student of intersectional body liberation movements.
Having grown up outside of New York City, Deborah has made Pittsburgh home for most of her adult life. She loves Pittsburgh’s concerts, museums, and plays, and Deborah and her son are enthusiastic and frequent visitors to the area’s comic book shops and conventions. Deborah also loves spending a quiet afternoon walking through Pittsburgh’s parks or sitting in her backyard with coffee, a good book, and her dog.
